Shame on their Corporate Chief Executive Officers for backing this up. I hope they realise how bad is making them look and the rhuge amount of waste they will create globally in a few years time with their current wasteful policies.
That is not a good brand move in the long-term. Personally, I find companyies like Adobe, and particluarly Apple, to be practising a very unsustainable business policiy, by trying to force their customers to ditch perfectly useful & in working condition computers for newer models just so we can run their software. Figma is free for individuals (freelancers, students, etc) and web based, meaning your computer hardware / sotfware version is not penalised. For the MacBook pro mid 2009 I haven't find anything yet but, as far as I know, it has got very similar hardware to the MacBook late 2009 that is supported (actually they have same processor and same gpu) so hopefully should be simple to find a solution to run mac os sierra on it. or it might be using it but with fewer total graphics features in the older CHrome OS UI it might be avoiding the pitfalls that cause newer versions to fail. Each year a new model of the Apple MacBook is released so details can vary from one model to the next. Like a lot of technology, Apple are leaders in this area and one of the most popular Apple laptops is without doubt the MacBook Pro.

So the only solution I found is to use Figma instead of XD. I reset the Macbook Nvram and reinstalled Mac OSX High Sierra. Whether its to get some work done or just watch TV shows, laptops have become an everyday item these days. This means that if you decide to upgrade now, the only OS you’ll be able to go back to is El Capitan. I have the same isue and so even if you happen tohave an old version of XD still running you wont be able to use the latest Material Design Kits from Google and iOS. Important notice: Apple has recently pulled down macOS Sierra installer from the Mac App Store. If your Mac isn't compatible with macOS High Sierra, the installer will let you know.
There is no solution from Adobe nor from Apple as of 1st March 2021. Mac Pro introduced in mid 2010 or later To find your Mac model, memory, storage space, and macOS version, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu.
